PEDS - Parents Evaluation of Developmental Status

In November 2011, Ruth Diemar, the Director of Birubi Point Preschool attended a training session in administering PEDS at the Centre for Community Child Health at The Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne.

PEDS is an evidence based screening tool used by parents to assist staff in determining the developmental needs of their children.

Parents are asked to answer a ten item questionnaire which takes only a few minutes and then their answers are discussed with the teacher. This screening tool recognizes that parents are experts on their children and are accurate observers of their children's development.

PEDS is being widely used in Victoria in Maternal and Child health visits, the School Entry Health Questionnaire and in preschools and Early Learning Centres and forms part of the four year old health check given by GPs/Practice nurses.

PEDS is:
